My Weekend

Sir Teguh – Writing Assignment (Min. 200 Words)

I spent my last weekend out of town, during the National Science Olympiad which was held in Medan. On Friday, August 6th 2008, the closing ceremony and awarding took place. We were free in the morning, so the Jakarta Physics Team went for a walk to Sun City Plaza, a mall near our hotel (about 10 minutes walking). We went to Gramedia and played at Timezone. All of us had great fun, but slowly we were filled with anxiety as the time for the awarding ceremony came nearer.

Finally, we get in our bus and went to Merdeka Square, where the closing ceremony took place. The ceremony started at 15.00 PM with the Jaipong Dance. Then, the Vice Minister of Education delivered his speech and closed the entire Olympiad. After that, there was a show of Saman Dance and the awarding began. The emcee read the bronze medalists first and 2 of us got the bronze medals. We waited a long time as they spend a seemingly very long time reading out the Senior High School winners (there were 8 subjects for the Seniors)

After about 20 minutes, the silver medal was distributed. 3 of us got them, including me. I was very happy, but at the same time a little bit disappointed for not winning gold. However, I’ve done my best and I am grateful to the Lord for what I’ve got. Finally the gold medals were given away, and again 3 of the team got them, leaving 4 with no medals (there were 12 of us).

We went back to Tiara Hotel at about 18.30 PM, dealt with some administration and packed our luggages. The next day, we got out certificates and went to Polonia Airport after breakfast. After checking in, we flew back to Jakarta and arrived at 13.00 PM.

We were greeted by Mr. Taufik Yudi Mulyanto, Head of The Education Department of Jakarta and his group. After a lot of photos taken, we took our baggages from the conveyor belt and went to our home, some with great joy and some with deep disappointment.

One weekend I’ll never forget.
